West Lancashire Golf Club

The West Lancashire Golf Club was founded in 1873 and is among the ten oldest golf clubs in England. It boasts one of the most natural and testing links in the British Isles, of which Donald Steel wrote "Only in Britain can one savour the true flavour of seaside golf, of which West Lancashire is a perfect example"

Imaginative and varied in layout, the course has so much more to offer than simply a wonderful experience of classic links with stunning views of the Mersey Estuary, and the Welsh Mountains.

Since 1976 The West Lancashire Golf Club has hosted Final Qualifying for The Open Championship when it has been played at Royal Liverpool and Royal Birkdale Golf Clubs and in 2012 acted as a qualifying venue for Royal Lytham Golf Club as well. For this, the American Scott Pinckney was one of the qualifiers when he set a new professional course record of 64 stokes at West Lancashire.

In 1885 The West Lancashire Club contributed to the cost of the Amateur Championship Trophy and in 2009 co-hosted The Amateur Championship which was won by the Italian teenage sensation Matteo Manassero who set a new amateur course record of 65 strokes at West Lancashire and joins an illustrious list of golfers who have played in competition on the links that is ranked among the UK's "Top One Hundred Courses"

The modern clubhouse offers state of the art facilities. In its comfortable bars, dining rooms and lounges you can relax after your round on the links and take in the spectacular views while enjoying a drink and sampling the excellent food.

The club is very proud of its history and challenging championship links, where visitors are most welcome throughout the year.

In 2014, the club hosted The Junior Open Championship. The event, run by the R&A welcomed golfers from 69 different countries.
