Come and Experience the True Test of Links Golf

England’s Golf Coast has a rich history of hosting the world’s most prestigious golfing events, including The Open Championship, The Ryder Cup and The Walker Cup. In 2015, Royal Lytham & St Annes hosted the Walker Cup, joining Royal Birkdale in being one of only three clubs to have hosted all three events (the other is Muirfield).

You too can take on these true tests of championship golf and walk in the footsteps of such great champions as Tom Watson, Seve Ballesteros and Tiger Woods, all Open Champions at one of our three Open Championship venues. With all but one of our member clubs having been in existence for over 100 years, there is plenty of history to enjoy and explore.

Although the three Open venues are the ‘jewel in the crown’ of England’s Golf Coast, all of our other courses are not to be overlooked. Hillside, Formby, Southport & Ainsdale and West Lancashire are all included in the ‘Top 100 Courses of the UK & Ireland’ and have all hosted The British Amateur Championships and final qualifying for the Open Championship. In 1937, Southport & Ainsdale became the first club to host The Ryder Cup twice.

All of our other member courses also have a rich history of hosting major events. Wallasey GC is ranked in the Top 100 in Great Britain & Ireland and has previously been used as an Open Championship final qualifying venue. In 1930, on his way to winning the Grand Slam, Bobby Jones qualified at Wallasey befoere going on to win The Open at Royal Liverpool. Wallasey is also famous for being the home of the stableford cosring system.

St Annes Old Links is ranked in the Top 100 Courses in England and has hosted final qualifying for The Open on numerous occasions. Most recently, it served as a final qualifying venue for 5 consecutive years, from 2018 - 2022.

Delamere Forest is a Herbert Foweler classic, renowned as one of the finest heathland courses in England. The course was recently ranked the 44th best course in England by National Club Golfer Magazine.

The Old Course at Formby Hall has played host to the European Seniors Tour, Challenge Tour and Europro Tour. At over 7000 yards from the blue tees, it is no wonder why!

Formby Ladies Golf Club, founded in 1896, is a unique ladies only members club, offering a truly testing links course that is open to visitors of either gender. The course is set amongst coastal sand dunes and towering pines, adjacent to Formby Golf Club, with tight fairways, heathery rough and well protected greens. The course was recently ranked the 80th best course in England by Golf World Magazine.

Hesketh, the oldest club in Southport, has previously hosted Open Championship Final Qualifying and was also co-host for the 2011 British Amateur Championship.

Fairhaven is a Regional qualifying venue for The Open Championship and has hosted many national and international amateur competitions.

With so many quality golf courses in such close proximity to each other, England’s Golf Coast is the perfect choice for your next golf break.
