Memorable Moment
On 6 June 1976, West Lancashire witnessed what Golf World magazine described as "one of the most stupendous shots ever hit in golf", when Peter Richard Parkinson made the longest hole in one ever achieved in the UK. The then-assistant club pro unleashed his almost superhuman shot at the seventh hole, a challenging par 4 measuring 393 yards, and went straight into the record books.
Star Anecdote
West Lancs can boast not one but two Open Champions who have served as its club professional. The first was Sandy Herd, who won at Hoylake in 1902, and the second was Arthur Havers, who defeated Walter Hagan by a stroke a Troon in in 1923. Havers also made three Ryder Cup appearances for Great Britain.
