Memorable Moment
Seve Ballesteros captured two of his three Opens at Lytham. His first victory in 1979 was a real thriller. Standing on the 16th hole for the final time, Seve ballooned his tee shot into a temporary parking area. Hereceived a free drop and hit his approach to 15 feet and the birdie putt virtually clinched his first Claret Jug.
"Where it finished was not really a car park," he said. "The cars were not far from the fairway." Nonetheless, the shot has gone down in Open history!
Star Anecdote
"I really believe that when things are going your way, it is your destiny to win. So many great things happen. In 1988,Nick Price was two shots ahead on a windy day, shot 69 on a very tough golf course and lost by two because I shot 65. It was my destiny, because he played well enough to win, but I was the Open champion."
