Birkenhead Priory & St. Mary's Tower
Overview
The oldest standing building on Merseyside, Birkenhead Priory was founded in 1150.
The monks that called this Benedictine Monastery home looked after travellers for almost 400 years and even oversaw the very first regulated Ferry cross the Mersey.
Also on the site with the priory is St Mary's, the first parish church in Birkenhead.
There's a small museum that depicts the story of the priory on site for visitors too.
Accessibility - Uneven but level access around most of the site; stairs render some parts of the site unavailable to all visitors; accessible toilet available.
Admission is free.
