Come and Experience the True Test of Links Golf
England’s Golf Coast has a rich history of hosting the world’s most prestigious golfing events, including The Open Championship, The Ryder Cup and The Walker Cup. In 2015, when Royal Lytham & St Annes hosts the Walker Cup, it will join Royal Birkdale in being one of only three clubs to have hosted all three events (the other is Muirfield).
You too can take on these true tests of championship golf and walk in the footsteps of such great champions as Tom Watson, Seve Ballesteros and Tiger Woods, all Open Champions at one of our three Open Championship venues. With an average age of 122 years, our member clubs have plenty of history to enjoy and explore.
Although the three Open venues are the ‘jewel in the crown’ of England’s Golf Coast, all of our other courses are not to be overlooked. Hillside, Formby, Southport & Ainsdale and West Lancashire are all included in the ‘Top 100 Courses of the UK & Ireland’ and have all hosted The British Amateur Championships and final qualifying for the Open Championship. In 1937, Southport & Ainsdale became the first club to host The Ryder Cup twice.
All of our other member courses also have a rich history of hosting major events. Hesketh and Wallasey have both hosted the British Amateur Championship and both have regularly been used as Open Championship final qualifying venues. Golfweek, in America, ranks Wallasey 26th in their 2012 rankings of Great Britain & Ireland’s classic courses.
Caldy has hosted numerous Ladies European Tour Events as well as co-hosting the Senior British Open Championship in 1981. Most recently the club acted as the final qualifying venue for the 2012 Ricoh Women’s British Open, held at nearby Royal Liverpool.
Formby Ladies has hosted numerous international amateur events. At 5374 yards you would be forgiven for thinking it was a pushover but Greg Norman would certainly be inclines to disagree. After playing the course, he was quoted as saying “What a beautiful course. It clearly shows that courses do not have to be 7000 yards plus to be formidable.”
With so many quality golf courses in such close proximity to each other, England’s Golf Coast is the perfect choice for your next golf break.
