RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands

RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands

Overview

The RSPB is the country's largest nature conservation charity, inspiring everyone to give nature a home. Together with our partners, we protect threatened birds and wildlife so our towns, coast and countryside will teem with life once again. We play a leading role in BirdLife International, a worldwide partnership of nature conservation organisations.

Outstanding beauty, an abundance of wildlife and a rich history combine at RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands, offering something for everyone to enjoy in this quiet corner of the Dee Estuary.

A gentle stroll along the trails immerses you in the wetland that is home to breeding avocets, lapwings and other wading birds in summer, and an array of different ducks and geese in winter. Dazzling dragonflies burst into life in summer and dart around the path edges; if you’re lucky you might see a kingfisher too. The woodland is carpeted with bluebells in spring and the trails edged with other wonderful wild flowers.

If you’re feeling energetic, venture up to Burton Point for a look at Wirral’s only Iron Age hillfort and enjoy unrivalled views of the estuary and the Welsh hills. Come back to unwind with a drink and snack in our cosy reception area. Take part in one of our exciting events to learn more or just for the interaction with the friendly RSPB team.
