Memorable Moment
Wallasey's lasting contribution to the game is the Stableford scoring system, invented by club member Dr Frank Stableford. Frustrated with the bogey system at that time, Dr Stableford invented his own scoring method while practising on the second fairway. Wallasey held the first competition under these rules in May 1932. As a tribute, 'The Frank Stableford Open Amateur Memorial Trophy' was introduced in 1969, now a major event in the amateur calendar.
