Memorable Moment
Royal Liverpool is the second oldest of England's seaside courses (only Westward Ho! in Devon is older) and its history runs deep. But for memorable moments, Bobby Jones's win in 1930 formed the second part of his Grand Slam of the four major championships - back then the Amateur and Open Championships of both Britain and the United States. Jones quit the game soon afterwards, aged 28, feeling that he had no peaks left to conquer.
Star Anecdote
One of the most charming of Open Champions, the Argentinian star took the title the last time it was contested here before 2006. He had finished second or third in six previous Opens, and his fame grew the following year when he lost the Masters by signing an incorrect scorecard. "What a stupid I am" was his reaction!
