'Course' 427 yards , Par 4

No less an authority than Peter Alliss has described Royal Liverpool's first as "the most intimidating first hole in Championship golf", and with good reason. Changes to the course layout mean it will be played as the third hole during the 2006 Open Championships, but 'Course' will be no less daunting for this. The challenging hole requires both accuracy and courage. A sharp dogleg to the right demands a well-positioned drive as near to the corner of the practise ground as confidence will allow. The second shot is of some 190 yards to a green protected by a swale on the safer left side away from the out of bounds close on the right.
