Royal Birkdale is undergoing reconstruction work prior to hosting the 2008 Open Championships. Club Pro Brian Hodgkinson was unable to speak about the new layout, but he kindly took the time to offer a great tip to everyone playing a challenging links course for the first time:
''You're likely to find yourself playing into the wind on a number of holes. When you are, hit the ball more gently. This will cut down on the amount of backspin, which keeps the ball on a lower flight and means that it's less affected by the wind.''
