The 'Lytham Golf Club' was first founded on the 3rd of May 1913 by a group of local men on land that was leased from Squire Clifton at a rent of £300 per annum.
Harry Varden, Walter Hagen and Edward Ray visited the club whilst in Lytham for the 1926 Open at Royal Lytham St Annes. They quoted 'It is a pleasant parkland course and a good test of golf for most players'.
Originally designed by the well acclaimed architect Dr. Mackenzie and laid out by the great Sandy Herd, the course was completely redesigned by James Steer who was Club Professional in the 1940's and it is ostensively his course that we play today.
The Club hosted the final qualifying rounds for the 1974, 1979 and 1988 British Open Championships.
Today the course is an extremely good test of golf whilst being very picturesque with its wildlife, ponds and tree lined fairways.
