History
The dunes around England's Golf Coast are home to many great courses: Hillside's sand dunes and pine trees lend it a glorious and enduring charm all of its own. Though it has staged many great championships, Hillside remains, for some, the best course never to have staged the Open itself. The club was founded in 1911, taking its name from the farm on the site. In 1923, a new 18-hole course was constructed and an improved layout was opened in 1967.
Sporting challenge
Hillside combines a sporting challenge with a magnificent setting, and its elevated tees offer spectacular views over the Irish Sea, and its illustrious neighbour Royal Birkdale. No less an authority than Greg Norman wrote to the club after playing the course and described Hillside's back nine as the "best in Britain", and, as many golfers have discovered, a round here lives long in the memory.
