Heswall GC has had the great good fortune to have had the exceptional services of this professional for 36 years and looking at his youthful face, it is difficult to believe he could be so old.

Currently Alan Thompson is one of the EGU Elite youth coaches.

Alan says the facilities at Heswall are second to none with newly commissioned driving range and CCTV set in the recently refurbished Pros shop and coaching suite.

Heswall Golf Club is home to one of the most successful golf coaches in the North of England. Alan Thompson has been a Cheshire County Coach since 1984 and English Golf Union Coach for the north-west since 1995. He has inspired many England International junior boys and several England girls and ladies, including two Curtis Cup players. He is coach to many European Tour Professionals and low handicap players from all over the north of England and North Wales.

"But I do want to get better at coaching," Alan says. "Whether I have a potential international or a keen high-handicapper, there is such huge satisfaction in coaching, getting people to reach an achievable target.

"Odd really. All that has happened for me has just evolved. I never set out to do this. I set out to be the Open champion!"
